When time stands still … – One (u)sees what really matters!

Time never really stops, but it can start to pass in a very different way than we are used to. This happens when an unexpected event takes place, or when, for example, illness strikes. The latter has happened in our home – a loved one has had two serious illnesses, on top of seasonal flu, which has not spared me, even though I am trying to balance my life as much as possible.

When I talk about balancing, I mean managing hormones in such a way that stress and sex are in a healthy relationship, because when the former start to ‘eat’ the latter, it has an impact on overall well-being and, consequently, of course, on resilience – resilience against various viral diseases as well as resilience to everyday challenges, or. to stress itself. Of course, our skin can also quickly show us that our inner state is not OK, but we usually feel a bit more sorry for ourselves (“I’m awful”, “I look miserable”, “ah yes, where’s my beautiful skin?”…) instead of offering ourselves the opposite – love.

Yes, it sounds cliché, but it’s so true! The two most important things that money really can’t buy are health and love. If we have at least one of these, and of course the ideal is a package of both, our well-being is almost guaranteed. Almost, because awareness of these – health and love, that is – is a prerequisite.

I am of course talking about love in a broader sense, not just partner love as we know it from glamorised Hollywood films. The love we feel, for example, when we look at, smell, feel the forest with deep awareness. Or the love with which we look at innocent beings, like sleeping children or our pets. The love we can feel just by looking at the sea, for example, or by doing yoga. (By the way, yoga is a great practice that sends oxygen to all our tissues and muscles, reducing the chances of blockages in energy flow that can lead to all sorts of health problems and illnesses.)

This is the kind of love I am talking about; a love of life that includes a love of self. Empathy, which can be further developed through awareness, leads to an even greater capacity to love (life), and when we achieve this, we – I believe – increase our chances of health a little (or, over time, quite concretely). For the well-being of body, mind and soul. (For myself, whenever the daily rush, which can also turn into a mad rush, pulls me unfeelingly into its wattles, I try to remind myself of the seals. Yes, seals. The ones I ‘met’ in Australia a few years ago and admired in their carefree adjustment to the sea breeze and the sun’s warmth. I’ve never seen a more ‘smug’, in the really nicest possible sense.)

Therefore, it is worth cultivating love. For the sake of health. And health for love’s sake. So it is not enough to be disciplined in healthy routines (often even initially healthy routines can turn obsessive, i.e. start to backfire), it is also necessary to turn on the consciousness (in everything we do, actually / hmmm, how many things would we then omit or shorten in our daily life, even forgive ourselves?) and maybe just a pinch of spirituality.

Therefore: let us honour love by consciously cultivating it. For our partner, for our family, for our friends, for animals, for nature, for life, for ourselves. Let us respect health through good habits. With habits that we feel in our gut are really good for us and that we are actually giving ourselves – love. Let us pay homage to both with a sincere gratitude for life. Because the latter is not a given and it should never become one. Because when it does, we quickly become worthless sacks of human flesh to ourselves, and the question is whether, when that happens, we are again able to open the door to the prana, the life force that drives the cosmos and otherwise flows through our channels. If we do not have the life force within us, we can put not-knowing-what on our skin and it will not look alive. But it would be nice if it was, wouldn’t it?

Let’s not forget: health and love. And plenty of it – not just for the New Year :), but now and always!
