AGEING SKIN AND ANTI-AGEING FACIAL CARE

Anti-age facials are not only about reducing wrinkles and preventing them from forming in the first place, but also about maintaining healthy skin. All products in the NANU range are essentially anti-ageing products, as all products contain active ingredients that slow down skin ageing. With NANU cosmetics, you’ll ensure the long-term health of your skin, and a better-looking complexion will be a matter of course.

AGING SKIN

Ageing of the body and skin is a normal process that happens to all of us. There are internal and external factors of skin ageing. Ageing can have a profound effect on self-image, and the pressure for beauty and youthfulness can be particularly strong for the female sex. Women in their 40s. Nowadays, women in their 40s are expected to maintain the appearance of 20-year-olds.

But why is appearance so important?

Women can therefore be very sensitive about their appearance and self-image. Beautiful and youthful skin makes us feel more attractive, feminine and confident. But the fact is that our skin reflects everything that is going on deep inside our body and soul.

Our face is a mirror of how we feel and, in fact, of everything that is going on inside.

Facial ageing is inevitable and, unfortunately, we cannot completely hide it. Our face and skin are the first things people see about us and are often a testament to our health (and attractiveness). So it’s no wonder that most people go to great lengths to keep their skin looking healthy and radiant.

We start ageing on the first day of our lives, in fact we start ageing biologically at 14. We start to become biologically active at the age of 14 or 15. It is not until around 20. However, it is also around the age of 20 that the first signs of ageing start to appear. Ageing can be divided into two segments:

Intrinsic (internal) ageing

Over the years, our skin’s collagen levels decrease, hyaluronic acid levels drop, skin becomes (even) drier, hormones also influence ageing, while hereditary genetic factors are thought to contribute less than 3% to ageing. In fact, heredity is thought to only influence how our skin will age or how we will age. We are responsible for everything else.

extrinsic (external) ageing

In general, external ageing is caused by environmental factors such as sun exposure, smoking, alcohol, repetitive facial expressions, diet, etc. It is essentially premature ageing of the skin and is characterised by the degeneration of collagen and elastin, the dilation of small blood vessels, the deposition of abnormal collagen and elastin, and pigmentation of the skin.

How do we age?

Visible ageing of the face therefore starts as early as 20. and continues throughout life. As we age, the following happens:

  • Soft tissues (muscle, fat, connective tissue) decline due to gravity. With ageing, the loss of collagen in the deep tissues, combined with the effects of gravity and repetitive activity, leads to deep wrinkles on the face.
  • Loss of volume due to fat pads. Fat pads are located below the surface of the skin and thin and recede with age. Cavities may form under the eyes. Sagging tissues can cause deep lines around the nose and mouth. Fat can accumulate under the chin, causing a double chin.
  • Skin changes and wrinkles appear. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin, resulting in the development of laugh lines, frown lines and crow’s feet in the eyes. Hydration is also reduced and the texture of the skin becomes coarser.
  • Changes in facial bone mass. Bones are the basis for facial muscles, fat pads and skin. As we age, bone loss can occur, changing the dimensions and contour of the face.

How can we prevent our skin from ageing?

The most we can do about extrinsic – external – factors of ageing.

UV light

The main focus should be on skin damage caused by excessive sun exposure. UV light from the sun penetrates the skin and damages the elastin fibres that keep the skin firm and allow wrinkles to form. Sunlight also causes age spots, also known as liver spots/sun spots, on sun-exposed areas such as the face, hands, etc.

Smoking
Reduced blood flow to the face and damage from toxic chemicals are the main culprits. In addition, wrinkles around the mouth (smoker’s lines) can result from smoking itself.

Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption causes general drowsiness of the skin, large pores and dryness. Alcohol is a toxin to the body and deprives the body of vitamin A, an essential antioxidant that is crucial for cell renewal.

Nutrition
Since the skin is constantly renewing itself and fighting all these environmental influences, it needs good nutrition to do its job properly. If the nutrition is not good, the skin suffers.

ANTI-AGEING INGREDIENTS

Preventing ageing and, to some extent, correcting the signs of ageing that are already present can be achieved by:

  • antioxidants,
  • cellular regulators,
  • peeled,
  • UV filters.

Antioxidants: vitamin C, vitamin B3, vitamin E, polyphenols, carotenoids …

Cellular regulators regulate fibroblast metabolism and increase fibroblast activity. The rate of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycan formation is increased. The most common cellular regulators: retinol (Vitamin A) and its derivatives, peptides, stem cells …

UV filters are essential for healthy, youthful-looking skin, but it’s important to make sure that we protect not only our UVB skin, but also and most importantly our UVA skin, which needs protection every day, not just in the summer.

ANTI-AGEING CARE TIPS

  • Use high-quality natural cosmetics.
  • Morning care should include hydrating care with antioxidant protection + UV protection.
  • Evening care should include regenerative care and repair of the lipid barrier (ceramides).
  • Additional care should include the use of cosmeceuticals or. targeted products (target serums) for associated ageing skin problems.

Prevention is always easier than cure, so always use a sunscreen (even in winter) with an SPF of 30 or more. Wear a hat with a brim and avoid sun between 10. 15. When it is at its strongest. Live a healthy lifestyle – eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, get plenty of exercise, avoid alcohol and tobacco, get enough sleep and avoid stress as much as possible – and of course, treat your skin to quality cosmetics with lots of active ingredients that will help and stimulate your skin’s repair processes.

Of course, a good and healthy daily routine will give us a few more wrinkles over the years (after all, this is also about internal ageing), but it will make it much easier to accept.
